US Senior open age requirement is 50 years old and Langer is the latest winner of the Senior Open at the age of 65. 

Senior golf has existed since the '80s. It is a competitive event for the old professional golfers which has a prize fund of four million. 

These avid golfers should follow certain criteria and regulations in order to qualify for the event. Also, the tournament does not play favorites or pull any punches. 

To elaborate, any past PGA competitor over the age of 50 should walk the ground of the course. They are only exempted from walking if they have medical permission. 

It has become a popular event throughout the world. This tournament has welcomed multiple champions from different nationalities but most Americans have the most wins.

US Senior Open 2023 Qualifying Age

US Senior Open 2023 qualifying age is 50 but in the '80s the minimum age to compete was 55, it was later lowered to its current standards. 

Before Langer, Allen Doyle was the oldest golfer to win the Senior Open. He won the cup when he was 16 days away from his 58th birthday.

The criteria to qualify for the Open is quite simple, US Open winners, any cup champion in the last ten years, and US Amateur winner shall be able to compete in the event meeting.

72-hole competing and lowest-ranked amateurs are welcome in the event. Here are some of the criteria that players have to meet to be in the event are as follows;

In addition, PGA tour champions of the top 30 of the previous year and the top 20 of the current year are selected. International tours like European and Japan that tour sends their top six and top two respectively. 

Furthermore, winners of the US Open in the first 10 years were encouraged to join. That said, players meeting any one of these criteria shall be able to join the tour.

US Senior Open 2023 Players List includes 1. Bernhard Langer 2. Steve Stricker 3. Jerry Kelly 4. Brett Quigley and 4. Rob Labritz. Quigley and Labritz shared fourth place. 

Langer broke the previous record and became the oldest golfer to win the Open. He became the most senior player to accomplish the feat. 

Langer and Stricker were closest to winning the prize but Langer secured 2 stroke margin of victory and defeated him in the 2023 Open. 

The event took place in Stevens Point, Wisconsin at Sentry World. Langer Bernhard received the winner's prize money of $720,000. 

Stricker became the runner-up twice, and he won the event in 2019 against Jerry And David. Steve has the best tournament record by far.

Bernhard Langer

Langer added another title in his 121 career wins. Bernhard is an elite golfer who has one of the highest win percentages. 

Langer's achievement is known by no bounds as he is also the second-highest title achiever in the European tour 1st in overall PGA champion.

In Senior Open he extended his lead early on and was able to achieve pars in the difficult holes that led him to his instrumental victories. 

Steve Stricker

Stricker failed to secure a 2023 win despite coming close twice in the event. The 56-year-old golfer had a praiseworthy career, he had a total of 39 wins.

Steve has a similar second-place record as his wins in the PGA tours. Nonetheless, Stricker has won multiple competitions including FedEx Cup twice in his career. 

In his prime, he achieved the highest ranking of second position after winning his fifth PGA tour. 

Jerry Kelly

Jerry Kelly is a 56-year-old golfer who has bagged 18 wins in his career including eleven PGA tour champions

Kelly has also participated in the Nike tour and won Player of the Year in 1995. He did not have much leverage in the '23 Senior Cup as the German player had taken the earlier lead in the game. 

Nonetheless, Kelly finished third which is one of the significant achievements that have taken place over the years in his career.

Brett Quigley 

Quigley only had four professional wins including one champion win. His highlight in 2006 was achieving $11 million and placing in the top 20 in the money list. 

The 53-year-old Florida native was able to secure the fourth position in the Open alongside Rob Labritz.

Barber is the only player to win the Senior tournament thrice after being 50 years old. He is one of the prominent figures in golf despite not winning a major championship besides a senior tour. 

Miller is a national hero, who Ryder Cup for the country twice in '69 and 71. He was one of the top golfers alongside Arnold Palmer and Gary Player. 

Hale Irwin

Hale Irwin is a 78-year-old golfer who was ranked 7th during his prime. Irwin was one of the leaders in his senior career. 

Half of his career victories were amassed from the Senior tour. Also, he earned a $26 million purse prize from his 45 wins. He won the USGA title twice in his career as well.  

Jack Nicklaus 

Jack Nicklaus is a hall of famer who is counted alongside Arnold in terms of his contribution to golf

He has won the US Open twice in his career and surpassed over a hundred trophies in his golfing tenure. The memorial tournament takes place in honor of the golfer.

Gary Player

Player is a South African golfer who has retired from golfing and lives a quiet life in Jupiter Island, Florida. Gary has amassed 159 wins in his career. 

Gary was a top non-American athlete who gave stiff competition to both Nicklaus and Palmer. In the second millennium, he was voted "Sportsman of the Century. "

According to golf digest, he was ranked the eighth greatest golfer in history. 

US Senior Open 2024

US Senior Open 2024 shall take place in the Newport Country Club located in Rhode Island and shall host the Senior Open championship. 

Originally, Newport was prepared to host the Open in 2020 but it was canceled due to covid. Thus, USGA has made up to the club by giving them the opportunity to organize next year's event. 

The event shall begin on June 27-30, 2024. This event's course shall feature 18 holes under 70 par. The tournament shall be covered by golf channel which shall the multiple senior players. 

Newport is one of the esteemed private clubs, multiple national and international dignitaries were members of this club. It is one of the top golf courses in the US.
