Ryan Gosling Says Eva Mendes, Kids Helped With "I'm Just Ken" Performance

Ryan Gosling's larger-than-life performance of "I'm Just Ken" at the Oscars was easily one of the major highlights of the night. The Barbie actor commanded the stage with an army of Kens to back him up, but as it turns out, his family were the ones who made the performance sing.

Speaking with People at SXSW, the actor reflected on bringing his Kenergy to the Oscars stage and gave a rare comment about his wife, Eva Mendes, and their daughters, Esmeralda and Amada, supporting him ahead of the event. "It was great," he told the outlet. "It was so fun because they came to the dress rehearsal the day before and so they were in the front row."

"They gave me some tips and some notes, all great notes," Gosling continued. "They are such a huge part of this for me...it was my girl's interest in Barbie and disinterest in Ken that got me into this in the first place. It was beautiful to have them there at the end."

The family support culminated in an impressive performance from the actor, who wore a hot pink suit for the affair. Barbie actors Simu Liu (Tourist/"Rival" Ken), Kingsley Ben-Adir (Basketball Ken), Ncuti Gatwa (Artist Ken) appeared for the background dancing. There was also a cameo from Slash and a reference to "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend," Marilyn Monroe's iconic musical number in 1953's Gentlemen Prefer Blondes during the showcase.
